So I feel bad. I have been neglecting my beloved blog. Much of that is in part to my lack of photographing excursions over the past couple months. But fall is coming and with it, more photos will follow...

The few photos I have taken in the past couple months have been for JENESIS Magazine's Photography Issue which can be seen here...www.jenesismagazine.com. My theme was BMX photos in Pittsburgh.

On a recent trip to the junkyard, we wondered into the "dinosaur" area. Where the cars have been sitting there for years on years and the only activity there is the spiders. I wish I would have taken more photos, but it was difficult to keep stopping while carrying all my tools...

All of these were taken with my Canon A580 point and shoot and I have to say, I am really happy/surprised with the results!

It sure has been a long time since i've posted anything on here, but i've been busy! After graduation, I started my summer classes so I could get my degree (history, economics and spanish...all because I switched majors back in the day).

I've been taking a few freelance jobs, events, weddings and the like to keep my camera clicking and to make a few extra bucks here and there. But other than that, I've been working for JENESIS Magazine. I finished up my internship with them and now Im a staff photographer. There is no pay yet, but its a cool gig, and eventually, we should be getting a little something.

Which leads me to the photos below. This September, JENESIS Magazine is doing its annual photography issue where it showcases the works of its photographers, as well as others and compiles them in an issue that is only photography. I will be getting about 15-20 pages for a photo story I am doing on BMX.

For the issue, we needed to take a self portrait as well as submit a little biography about ourselves. These images were all shot by me and are for consideration of the image I will use for my portrait.

Im really getting into this whole strobist thing...

Enjoy!

Last week, Point Park University's journalism and mass communication department held their annual  Washington D.C. trip.  This was my second year going there and as always, it was a fun trip.

This year, not only did I photograph, but I also tried my hand in multimedia with the addition of video.  With more and more agencies and organizations getting into video and multimedia, I am trying to get my feet wet.

All photos taken with Canon 40D and video with Canon ZR 950.

A while ago, I had an assignment for my B&W class about 2 years ago for a photo essay.  This is what I came up with, with a little help from my uncle the mathematician.

The idea of the essay was numbers and how they are all around you.  I went around the city of Pittsburgh late at night with my calculator in hand searching for numbers.  The numbers of Pi.

This was some of my very early work in photography, let alone film developing circa 2006.

It's short for a photo essay, but it gets the point across.

Some Strobin'

These are a couple photos I did for my color photography class recently.  With the nice weather we've been having, I figured it was time to get out of the studio and take it to the streets.

Practicing some lighting techniques too.

Keystone Press Collegiate Division

A while back, the editors of the Globe sent in some submissions for various categories to be entered into a state-wide competition.  Keystone State Collegiate Division had a number of  categories such as best news story, feature story, photos and such.  Well they had sent in a photo that I had taken last year for a story about Mellon Arena.

The two photos below won 2nd place statewide for feature photos.

A New Month

It's that time again, the new issue of Jenesis Magazine is out once again.  It can be found (and downloaded for free) at www.jenesismagazine.com

Due to everything that has gone on in February, I don't have much that I contributed to the magazine for this issue, but none the less, I do have the photos from DJ Waajeed (from my previous post) in the magazine this month.

Enjoy!

DJ Waajeed

My internship with Jenesis Magazine has taken me to some interesting and "hip" places and events that I am really starting to enjoy.  One of the places has been the Shadow Lounge in Shadyside where there are frequent appearances by DJ's.  One of the most recent ones had been a benefit "spin" for a fallen DJ, DJ Dilla.   The magazine was writing a story about a well known DJ from Detroit named DJ Waajeed.

These guys to some crazy things with records and different music that blows the mind.  What also blows my mind is how they can keep track of all that is going on with the recods and their computers all at the same time...but thats why they are the DJ's and I am the photographer.

All photos were taken at Shadow Lounge and were shot with 15mm Fisheye and 580exII

Strobin Around the Room

Well with my recent antenna modification of my eBay triggers, (which by the way work great now) I've been practicing a few lighting techniques around my room.

All of these shots were taken with a single bare 580EX II, with Cactus V2 triggers, and a 15mm fisheye.

Nothing too spectacular, just a little practice!
